A Legacy of Responsible Luxury
At The Killarney Park, sustainability is not just a responsibility—it’s a privilege. As a proud family-owned hotel situated within the UNESCO biosphere buffer zone of Killarney National Park, we are dedicated to regenerative tourism that protects, preserves and enhances the land and community we love.
We do not believe luxury and environmental care are opposites. We strive to set the standard for thoughtful, responsible hospitality, offering you a stay that not only delights but also makes a difference.
Energy & Emissions: Reducing Our Footprint
We are committed to cutting our carbon emissions:
- Installed 100kW solar photovoltaic system, reducing reliance on the grid
- Upgraded to energy-efficient heat pumps and VRV air conditioning systems
- Implemented Guest Room Management Systems (GRMS) to optimise energy use with motion and heat sensors, auto-curtains and eco modes
- Replaced all gas fireplaces with high-efficiency electric fireplaces
- Powered by 100 % Renewable Electricity & BioLPG.
- On-site Porsche-designed EV chargers are available to guests.
Water Conservation: Every Drop Counts
Water is precious, and we manage it with care:
- Fitted smart sensors and automatic controls to minimise water waste
- Recycled rainwater for gardens and landscaping
- Installed eco-mode taps and showers throughout guest rooms and public areas
- All bottled water is filtered on-site; proceeds are donated annually to a local sustainability project
Waste Management: A Zero-Waste Ambition
We lead by example in eliminating waste:
- Adopt a reduce, reuse, recycle policy throughout the property
- Eliminated single-use plastics across the hotel
- Certified Single Use Plastic-Free by Green Hospitality Ireland
- All miniature toiletry bottles replaced with luxury refillable dispensers, cutting 100,000 plastic bottles per year
- Partnered with Clean the World to recycle every used bar of soap and toiletry tube
- No plastic bin-liners; each guest room now has an in-room recycling bin
- Partnered with suppliers to reduce packaging waste
- Launched strict recycling and composting programmes for food and materials
- Created on-site kitchen gardens to reduce food miles and waste
Local Sourcing & Ethical Partnerships
We believe in supporting our community and reducing transport emissions:
- Prioritise Irish-made furniture, joinery, carpets, and textiles
- Work closely with local farmers, fishers, and artisan producers for restaurant ingredients
- Partner with Wildsmith, a sustainable British skincare brand, for in-room toiletries with refillable packaging
Community Engagement & Leadership
We don’t work alone. As a founding member of the Killarney Hotels Sustainability Group, we:
- Share best practices and inspire change across local hospitality
- The Killarney Park and our sister hotel, The Ross, are part of a network of small independent businesses supporting local suppliers. Proceeds from our filtered-water sales are donated annually to a local charity.
- Collaborate with the town to lead impactful sustainability campaigns (e.g., reusable coffee cup project, pollinator-friendly planting)
- Publish an annual Sustainability Report for transparency and accountability
Green Purchasing
Our Green Purchasing Policy favours local, low-carbon, recyclable and Fair-Trade products in everything we buy – from food and linens to stationery.
Responsible Marketing
We commit to telling our sustainability story honestly and mindfully, avoiding any form of green-washing. Every claim is evidence-based, every image is genuine and our progress is reviewed publicly each year in the Sustainability Report.
The Journey Continues
Sustainability is not a destination—it’s a journey we embrace every day. We are continuously reviewing, refining and enhancing our practices to meet the highest possible standards, while still delivering the exceptional five-star experience you expect.
When you stay at The Killarney Park, you are joining a story of quiet, thoughtful care for both people and planet.
