Take a visit to the lakeside working sheep farm at the foot of Mangerton Mountain in Killarney National Park and enjoy a demonstration with local sheep farmers and their sheep dogs and learn how the farm works day to day in terms of caring for the sheep – shearing, housing and grass management.
From Cow to Cone Ice Cream Tour
This is a farm tour with a focus on artisan ice cream making. Meet the cows who produce the milk and cream to make the ice cream. John will tell you his story of how he diversified into producing ice cream in 2019. Listen to the story of how the idea for making ice cream evolved and the challenges and wins along the way. See behind the scenes of our ice cream production. Afterwards, enjoy a scoop of the award-winning ice cream in the old farm cottage.
Milk the Cows with John at Dawn
For all members of the 5 am club! Are you an early bird? Would you like to be a dairy farmer for a morning? Get up and meet John on the farm at 6.30 am! Put on wellies and farm overalls. Walk out to the fields with John and bring the cows in and help with the milking. Move the cows to their new pasture. After all that work enjoy breakfast with John. We will provide wellies, farm overalls and ongoing directions and commentary throughout the experience. (Showers can also be provided if you smell after this deep immersion in farm life)
Space for Nature Farm Tour
Do you wonder about the impact of cows on our climate? Let John take you on a tour of the farm where he will tell you of the different projects ongoing on the farm to improve biodiversity and minimise our impact on the climate. See the native woodlands that are a wildlife habitat and the bog field which has been retained as a carbon sink. Learn about soil and grass. Learn the value of hedgerows and field margins to local biodiversity. Listen to nature as you walk through the fields. We have a masters in sustainable agriculture and the focus of this tour is to talk about dairy farms and the environment. Including a robust question and answer session regarding animal husbandry, sustainability best practices, bio-diversity and what we are doing to reduce our GHG emissions.
Morning Producers Tour
Enjoy a mid-morning relaxed stroll through the bustling streets of Killarney with carefully chosen stops and tastings of local produce. Meet some of the producers and hear their stories from ice cream makers to bakers, from fish and chips to local cheese or traditional Argentinian empanadas. A fun food-filled time is guaranteed.
Evening Restaurant Tour
Take an evening Restaurant Tour sampling small signature dishes chosen specially by the chefs behind some of Killarney’s well-known restaurants. Soak up the wonderful atmosphere and savour some of the delights that Killarney has to offer.
The Kerry Creamery Experience in Listry is located only 15 minutes from Killarney town centre.
A unique (only one on the island of Ireland) experience brings history to life, evoking memories for those who grew up with the Creamery as part of their everyday lives.
You will begin your experience by helping Annette prepare her scrumptious Irish scones a family recipe passed down. As the scones bake you will travel back in time with a private tour of the Creamery, and see how rural Ireland actually was. The scones can be savoured with butter, jam and fresh cream whilst warm from the oven will be served in the tearoom with Barry’s Irish tea while taking in the splendour of the McGillicuddy Reeks, stunning views of Ireland’s highest peak. Listry Creamery has been lovingly recreated to replicate its original working model. Journey back in time and experience an important aspect of rural community life that has now been consigned to history. Discover how our or even your grandparents, local small farmers, and their families, supported the dairy industry long before large tankards took to the roads. The story beings with a guided tour of an original creamery that opened in 1919. Hear witness accounts of how the creamery operated at the turn of the 20th century. Visit the adorable and loving-friendly farm animals and discover the liquid gold that originated in Eire.

With a professional background and a Diploma in Family History, Rachel’s passion for Irish ancestry is matched by her profound knowledge of Irish history, culture, and heritage. Drawing inspiration from County Kerry’s rich tradition of tracing family connections, Rachel has cultivated a worldwide pastime of uncovering ancestral roots.
Guests can embark on their own ancestral journey by availing themselves of the services offered by Ancestors of Ireland at our hotel. Using a diverse range of historical documents from various countries, including land records, census records, church records, and more, Rachel meticulously traces Irish family histories back in time, providing clients with a detailed file containing evidence and proof of their Irish ancestry. This personalised service is available at a price of €265.00 for a 90-minute consultation, which includes the delightful addition of tea, coffee, and scones served in our charming library during the session. It’s an opportunity for our guests to delve into their familial past and gain a deeper understanding of their Irish heritage.

Come and spend a few hours with Maurice in the O’Connell ancestry household which has been part of the O’Connell family for over 900 years set in on the edge of Lough Lein looking toward the McGillicuddy Reeks. Maurice will explain his family’s history and of course his rather famous relative Daniel O’Connell, known as ‘The Liberator’. Often proclaimed Ireland’s greatest son, he achieved revolutionary change for his fellow Irishmen but insisted on using peaceful means only. Maurice will showcase his family’s small batch whiskey in his onsite distillery located on the estates’ outhouses as you pass barley fields that play a pivotal part in the whiskey making process. Join Maurice for a tasting session in the household drawing room.
